You turn into one of these alleys without deciding to. For a moment it feels like you have stepped out of sequence.

The stone walls hold onto dampness even when the air feels dry. The words go into the space. Then disappear just as quickly. They do not belong to anything in particular. They just move through like everything here.

The alleys do not lead to any place.. Maybe they do, but it is not clear while you are walking. They bend a little again. Sometimes they open up to something. Sometimes they take you back to where you thought you already were.

Doors appear without warning. Some doors open some do not. It is not always clear which doors are meant to be used and which are there.

There are moments when the city feels layered. It is not stacked in a way you can see.. It is suggested in the way one path overlaps another without showing it.

What Lingers Between Walls

Sound is different here. It does not echo. It gets softer, louder again in places you do not expect. You hear a conversation somewhere above you. You hear footsteps that seem closer than they’re

You stop even though nothing told you to. The space lets you.. Maybe it makes you stop.

You do not have a sense of direction anymore. You are not lost you are just not sure. The main street feels both near and far at the time.

Movement That Doesn’t Announce Itself

Later or maybe earlier. It is hard to tell. The feeling of movement comes back. It does not come back suddenly. It is like something that was already happening quietly in the background.

Someone mentions Dublin to Galway. They say it without emphasis. It does not suggest a change. It just suggests more of what’s already happening.

The idea of distance does not mean much. Places seem connected in a way that does not depend on how apart they are.

Where the Water Holds Light

Galway does not arrive suddenly. It unfolds in a rhythm. The space opens up of closing in. The quays go along the water without a beginning or end.

The colors appear slowly. You see painted fronts, signs, reflections in the river that change with the smallest movement. Nothing stays the same for long.

There is a movement here. It does not rush. People walk, stop and continue. The water moves with it all. It does not move faster or slower.

Edges That Stay Soft

The boundary between land and water is not strict. The quays go out to the river. The river reflects them back a little changed. It is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins especially when the light changes.

Boats rest without seeming to be anchored.. Maybe they are anchored, but it is not what you notice. They are part of the scene.

You walk without choosing a direction. The path appears, then changes as you follow it.

Repetition Without Return

There are moments that feel familiar.. They are not the same. A corner that looks like another corner. A stretch of wall that seems like you already passed it.

It is not exactly repetition. It is like variation within something that continues.

Time does not separate these moments clearly. They overlap a little. It is harder to put them in order.

The Space Between Places

The movement between Edinburgh and Galway does not feel like a transition. It feels like the quiet continuity. The narrow stone passages give way to open water.. It does not feel like a sharp divide.

The difference exists.. It does not define the experience. It changes slowly reluctantly.

Trains, roads, routes. They all seem to follow a line that was already there. They do not create a line.

Where It Doesn’t Close

Toward the end or something like it the images start to settle into each other. The narrow alleys, the quays, the reflections that do not stay still.

Nothing replaces anything. They stay alongside each other loosely connected.

There is not a moment that gathers everything into a view. The details stay separate. Not disconnected.

Then the movement continues. Not toward a destination. Just onward, in the quiet way it began.

Where the Stone Narrows The Royal Mile does not open up all once. It gets tighter first.
